Amy E. Witte, born 1970, is an Ankeny, Iowa based Encaustic painter, Printmaker and Assemblage artist.  Witte uses orphaned, vintage photographs, ephemera, wood and encaustic paint to create her work. Her works distort history, elevate the mundane and create conversations about human nature and our social perspectives. Witte employs humor of the ordinary and an ambiguous perspective only seen as one studies the works more closely.  In a world where many times the viewpoint is either black or white, her work is neutral gray.  Her goal is to see the dark and light side of an issue and to start an open and honest dialogue. She uses an assortment of found imagery and motifs in her work. Many are inherent to biology, psychology, social science and connecting to the idea of nature verses nurture.  Her titles are often humorous and sardonic and reflect a certain perversity.

Witte earned a BFA in Printmaking and Photography from The Kansas City Art Institute (Kansas City, Mo.) and her MFA in Printmaking and Bookmaking from Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona). While at Arizona State University, she was a research assistant and Type Shop Assistant for Pyracanthea Press, the Universities Book Arts Press. 
Many of her books, prints and paintings have been exhibited nationally in California, Arizona, Utah, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and New York. International exhibitions include Japan and The Republic of Macedonia. Her work is in public collections such as The Tucson Museum of Art in Tucson, Arizona, The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and The University of Notre Dame, Theodore M. Hesburg Library in South Bend, Indiana.
